They have a nasty habit of dropping services with no viable replacement. I have been burned by Google enough to not trust them as a “forever” solution.

I don't know but I'm sure someone here knows. If so and all you care about is a place to host your pics in the cloud to embed in various places you could use any number of services. Anyone know? Is it just a matter of knowing the right bbcode tags and syntax? It is my naive assumption that the forum needs to support bbcode, not the image host site. I wonder if it is possible to wrap any arbitrary image url in bbcode tags. If it had BBCode as well, that would make it even more useful. I wouldn't mind paying for any of those, and will be getting one very soon. Other services like Format and SquareSpace do not offer the BBCode like Flickr does? So right now, we are out of luck, it seems. Maybe the time of photo hosting communities is over and if not I guess in time real alternatives to Flickr will appear.

Of course if you only want to show your very best pictures and not really participate in the community the Free account should still be sufficient. IMHO the photo hosting community idea is more or less broken now and it is becoming more of a photographer advertising service. Unfortunately the Free accounts no longer allow larger numbers of images (irrespective of storage use) which means it becomes impossible to keep a larger image collection online there without paying. If subscription rate can double suddenly it could double again, or there might be new limits if that suits the new owners. I also don't like the new Flickr conditions because IMHO the service leaves much to be desired (tediously slow when editing, unreliable, problems with spam comments/bots etc.), I'm not interested in any of the 'Pro' features except getting rid of the 1000 image limit and at this point I'm not interested in paying for that. And it lacks some important features that have been available on Flickr for a long time. Agree with comments above that Google is going to break Photos at some point, like they did with most of their other services (shutter the service, complete redesign, force you to pay or other unpleasant new conditions besides the general harvesting of your data). The same issue is discussed on the Flickr forums and elsewhere and indeed there doesn't seem to be a real alternative now, depending a bit on what you are really looking for. So there's no alternative? I just read that thread and that's what I got out of it.

Will this embed the image in its full resolution? For example, if it was upload at 12MP, it will show like that here? It's a little cumbersome and the URL is humongous but it should then work fine. In the Forum reply place this before (img) the image and this after (/img) except that you need to replace the () with square brackets.

Right click on the image you want to share and choose 'Copy Image address' don't pick the copy image option, and don't use the share link. The way to share from GP is to do the following I switched from pbase to google photo a few years(?) ago. Or if it can't, what else can? Format? SquareSpace? The question is, is there a similar sharing system like Flickr has, that for example we all use here on FM to share our photos with others in threads? Can Google Photos do that? Now, is Google Photos an alternative? I've never used it but just tired uploading a couple photos and I like the quality and the speed of the site. The thing is, for what it offers, I don't see myself paying for it and I know several others on the same boat. I'm sure you all already know that you now must pay for Flickr. Alternative to Flickr? Is Google Photos it?.
